Channa striata is a wild freshwater fish and a voracious seed predators and highly feared by fish farmers. These fish are wild fish (which are predatory carnivore). In nature, fish, cork not only fish but also prey on the seeds of adult fish and other aquatic insects including frogs. Even in Borneo has been reported to prey on ducklings cork. This makes sense because in rivers and in swamps of Borneo there is a large cork (cork Toman / aruan and the like).

Channa striata known by many names. There was a call as aruan, haruan (Malayan and Banjar), kocolan (Batavia); bayong, Bogo, licingan, curses (Java), and others. In English, eels are also called by various names, such as common snakehead, snake-head murrel, chevron snakehead, striped snakehead also aruan. There are several types of cork. Channa striata is a species of fish cork
easily found and has a relatively small body size. Another type is cork Toman Channa and Channa pleuropthalmus micropeltes. Toman cork is a cork type of large body size, reach a length of 1 meter with a weight of 5 kg.

Channa striata has a large head and somewhat flat like a snake's head (so called snakehead). There are big scales on the head. Gilig elongated round body, such as missiles or torpedoes. Elongated dorsal fin and caudal fin rounded at the tip. The upper side of the body from head to tail, dark brown or greenish black. The underside of body white. Side-streak streaky thick (striata).

This color often resemble the surrounding environment. Mouth large, with big teeth and sharp.
Catfish commonly found in public waters as wild fish. Many caught in lakes, swamps, rivers, and channels water to the rice paddies. In Indonesia, fish, cork initially only available in the west line of Wallacea (Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan). However, in the course of time, catfish introduced (inserted) into the territory of East Indonesia.

In some areas traversed by the flow of rivers such as in Sumatra and Kalimantan, the fish is often carried by flood cork into trenches around the house, or entering the maintenance of fish ponds and become pests that prey on pet fish. If the wetland, pond or ditch dries up, the fish will attempt to move to another place, or when forced to, will bury themselves in mud to place it back to water. Therefore, this fish is frequently encountered "walk" on land-especially in the evenings in summer, looking for other places that are still runny. Fish cork can survive without water because it can absorb free oxygen breathing on a ventilator in the form of "labyrinth".

As for who makes the cork can "walk" on land is the pectoral and pelvic fins are used to "walk".

Control
Usually these fish grab their prey at the surface into the pond so that if his presence can be immediately known. cork fish that will grab their prey usually quiet around the water plant (and thus invisible to the prey) and all of a sudden hurtling directly towards its prey and swallowing it. Large mouth allows for it.

In mating season, male and female catfish prepared in cooperation between the plants in the nest at the water's edge. The kids fish orange red black striped, swim in groups to move together to and fro in search of food. This young group is maintained by its parent. This is the best time to catch / expel the cork from the pool.

To prevent the introduction of cork to the pool, at the time of treatment, the pond must be completely dry up the cracks so as not to allow the cork to survive. Let the sunlight the pond is dried for several days. At the entry channel, from palm fiber filter mounted very tightly so that the seed and the dough did not enter into the pool with water flow.

If you already have in the pond catfish, must be immediately arrested. Usually the population is not so much. Mengggunakan cork can be lured with the bait in the form of small fish, frogs or eating children. Pemancingannya quite unique way, namely by moving the bait in the water. Moving bait is usually struck by foam because presumed prey. Cork are caught can be consumed because it tastes good and became a favorite food in some areas either in the form of fresh or dried / salted.
